Job Summary: The certified surgical technologist performs sterile techniques to prepare surgical trays, assist with minor procedures, and support surgeons and clinical staff throughout the pre-operative and post-operative process. This role is responsible for cleaning and preparing surgical instruments for sterilization, maintaining supply levels, assisting with patient intake and vital signs, and ensuring clinical areas and operating rooms remain clean, organized, and safe for patient care.
Required Qualifications:
- Education:
- Graduate from Surgical Technology program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or completion of a formal training program provided by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, and Air Force) for surgical technicians, surgical technologists or operating room technicians
- Certifications:
- BLS
- Certified as a Surgical Technician (CST) from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or
- Certified as a Tech-in-Surgery (TS-C) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or
- Possess a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) certification as a surgical technician and/or operating room technician.
- Experience: One year of experience as a Surgical Technician or Operating Room Technician after graduation.
U.S. Citizenship is required
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform the full spectrum of sterile techniques, setting up surgical trays, preparing and draping patients for surgery and assisting with post-operative dressings.
- Ensure surgical packs are cleaned and packed for sterilization after every procedure, to include restocking surgical supplies.
- Maintain a clean, safe environment for the patient either by active participation in the cleaning of clinical spaces, operating rooms, and medical equipment, or by guiding other personnel in the environmental maintenance.
- Assist surgeon with preoperative process: escort patient to exam rooms/process in take
- forms/vital signs.
- Minor procedures: Set up/assist/break down room/transport dirty surgical instruments to SPD/ transport Specimen to lab/daily room checks/pharmacy supply of lidocaine is available
- Supplies: maintain supplies levels/organize/clean/monitor expiration dates.
Work Environment & Schedule: Onsite, Monday to Friday, from 7:00am - 6:00pm.
Physical requirements: May require frequent lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds of instrument trays, sterilization containers, and supply boxes. Occasional lifting up to 40–50 pounds, especially when moving large surgical instrument sets, sterilization equipment loads, or CPR carts. The job may also require pushing/pulling heavy carts, prolonged standing, bending, and repetitive hand movements while handling instruments and equipment.
