Join our team as a Quality Control Technician!
The Quality Control Technician is responsible for conducting testing procedures during and after manufacturing processes to ensure that custom products comply with quality standards. This role will also collaborate with engineering to design testing procedures for new product development and introduction, as well as contribute to building Protolabs’ metrology capabilities.
M-F 8AM-4PM
What you will do
- Use a variety of precision measuring equipment from calipers and pin gauges through sophisticated structured-light vision systems.
- Measure manufactured parts to ensure dimensions conform to requirements.
- Inspect parts for conformance to cosmetic standards.
- Conduct incoming inspection of raw materials as well as parts from suppliers.
- Contribute to the development of a metrology laboratory, including recommending supplemental equipment and process improvements.
- Train other technicians and operators on the use of measurement equipment.
- Recommend process improvements to achieve higher levels of success for delivering quality results on predictable timelines to meet overall business objectives.
- Adhere to all quality and safety standards within the department.
- Maintain clean and organized work area with emphasis on safety, quality, efficiency, and utilization.
- Continually seek to improve work processes and individual performance.
- Adhere to all company policies and operational procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What it takes
- Associate's degree in quality technology, or equivalent.
- 2+ years working in a Quality Technician role, including use of programmable inspection equipment such as a CMM or Vision system.
- Ability to read blueprints and use measuring tools to ensure correct tolerances.
- Previous experience in a CNC manufacturing facility.
- Thorough understanding of measurement techniques and measurement equipment.
- Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning.
- Familiar with data collection and statistical methods.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.
- Strong work ethic and self-motivated.
- Good written and oral communication skills: able to communicate complex information cross-functionally.

Physical Demands:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse, telephone and printer; reach with hands, and arms, talk, see and hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop or kneel and must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
Work Environment:
Indoors (A/C); nonsmoking; the majority of this job function is performed in a manufacturing area exposed to machinery and noise; with eye protection and safety shoes required. Occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
