Join our team as a Quality Engineering Technician!
The Quality Engineering Technician ensures product conformity by developing Quality Assurance expertise, maintaining documentation, and identifying and resolving quality issues. Working within project teams, they establish systems and process controls, investigate complaints, and implement solutions, while collaborating with Engineering for process development. The role includes supporting product transfers, audits, and supplier communications, with a focus on continuous improvement and maintaining safety and quality standards in line with Protolabs’ policies.
Monday - Friday 10am - 630pm
What you will do
- Develop and utilize Quality Assurance technical expertise in support of manufacturing. Identify issues and analyze the cost of poor quality.
- Maintain the Document Management System and Quality Records.
- Support continuous improvement activities, including analyzing data, completing Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, participating in kaizen events, and lean manufacturing activities.
- Collaborate with Engineering to characterize manufacturing processes. Apply critical thinking to support development of repeatable processes.
- Work on programs of low complexity and scope.
- Review and analyze post market quality data. Conduct investigations of customer complaints to identify causes and appropriate actions to prevent recurrence.
- Investigate Nonconformities associated with internal processes, vendor, and audit findings, and implement corrective actions.
- Support product transfers and new product introductions.
- Support the audit and qualification of new suppliers, and resolve supplier quality issues.
- Perform internal audits of the Quality System, and support external audits of the Quality System.
- Communicate directly with customers and suppliers.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas with emphasis on safety, quality, efficiency, and utilization.
What it takes
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Industrial, Manufacturing or Mechanical), Physical Science or related field OR two or more years directly related experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 2+ years of technical experience in CNC Machining, Injection Molding, and/or 3D Printing environment(s).
- Experience working with customers and suppliers.
- Experience with and knowledge of applications like: Salesforce, AX, ES, and MES.
- Familiarity in Quality System Standards such as ISO 9001 or AS9100.
- Able to communicate complex technical information to all levels of the organization, able to write technical procedures and work instructions .
- Strong attention to detail and ability to focus on one task for extended periods.
- Able to work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication skills and presentation skills.
- Must be able to effectively collaborate with team members, leaders, and other departments.

Physical Demands:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse, telephone and printer; reach with hands, and arms, talk, see and hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop or kneel and must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
Work Environment:
Indoors (A/C); nonsmoking; the majority of this job function is performed in a manufacturing area exposed to machinery and noise; with eye protection and safety shoes required. Occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
